My Focus if I’m Elected Councillor for Transcona:
- Fixing City Hall: My goal is to create a more cooperative city hall, partnering and working together to get the job done. We represent you the people of Winnipeg and you deserve a better city hall.
- Fiscal Prudence: City Hall needs to remember it's not the cities money they are using. It is your money and city hall must be more fiscally responsible with the resources it oversees.
- Seniors Concerns: With our growing population of seniors, we must work hard to ensure their well-being is at the forefront of policies the city council creates. We have to work with all stakeholders to come up with tangible plans on increasing/building affordable housing units.
- Rebuilding Infrastructure: Just as the citizens renew their own properties, choosing the priorities and budgeting for these repairs. City Hall and Council must also prioritize and come up with better ways to do infrastructure repairs. There needs to be more planning between City Hall, its departments and other stakeholders, such as Waste and Water, Manitoba Hydro, and others. One department repairs streets, sidewalks, and boulevards, only to have another department, or utility come 6 months later to dig up the same area. Working together these infrastructure renewals can be done at the same time, saving time and resources.
- Improved snow clearing: There are major issues in the city in how sidewalks and back-lanes are cleared. Sidewalks need to be cleared to concrete, and snow removal in back-lanes must be done more frequently and thoroughly. Snow clearing is even more important now that Canada Post has begun to install mailboxes on street corners. People with mobility issues, health issues and seniors will need safe clear sidewalks in order to make it safely to these new community mail boxes.
- Off-leash dog areas: I want to work with WINDOG and other stakeholder and create a working group to come up with a plan to create and sustain off-leash dog areas throughout the city. Every region of the city should have several areas where dog owners can let their pets run free.
- Youth Needs: Youth Needs: Youths need fun and safe facilities to come to after school, or evenings where they can meet friends, splay sports or participate in other youth orientated activities. We have to find a way to enhance community centres, after school programs and others facilities. Youth must be a priority of city hall.
